First Week Guide: What to Do in Days 1–7
Updated for version 1.0 (Aug 2026) · Low spoilers
Your first week in Fields of Mistria sets the pace for everything else: cashflow, tools, and which villagers even know your name. This guide is a practical opener, not a 100% completion route.

Who this guide is for
- Brand-new players who just installed 1.0
- Returning Early Access players who want a clean “what changed / what still matters” opener
- Anyone who keeps ending Day 1 tired, broke, and unsure what mattered
If you only want romance or min-max tables, jump to Marriage or Gifts after Day 2.
First 30 minutes (don’t skip)
Do these before you “just go farm forever”:
- Confirm language, volume, and accessibility options you’ll actually keep.
- Learn how saving works in your version (manual vs autosave). Make a habit of saving before risky exploration.
- Read the tutorial prompts once, then stop re-reading them mid-day—time still moves.
- Note your stamina/energy UI. Early progress is an energy budget game more than a skill game.
- Don’t blow your starter money on cosmetics or “maybe later” buildings. Food, seeds, and tool needs come first.
Day-1 traps
| Trap | Better move |
|---|---|
| Clearing the entire farm on Day 1 | Clear one workable crop patch + paths you need |
| Ignoring town entirely | Pass through town daily—even short chats compound |
| Hoarding junk “for later” | Keep craft/quest mats; sell obvious trash for seed money |
| Exploring until you pass out | Turn back with enough energy to water and sleep |
| Buying random seeds with no plan | Plant what matures before the season ends |
Day 1–7 action table
Do this in order. If energy runs out, stop at the next sleep line—do not “just finish the mine.”
| Day | Must do | Nice if you have leftover energy | Do not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Finish the tutorial, clear one small crop patch, plant current-season seeds, water, walk through town and talk to everyone you meet | Short forage on the farm→town path | Full farm clear, cosmetics, random long-growth seeds |
| 2 | Water, harvest if anything is ready, restock only seeds/food, talk again, stash 3 cheap liked gifts | One fishing session or one short forage loop | Splitting leftover energy across fish + mine + forage |
| 3 | Same chore loop + sell extras. Start a labeled chest: Seeds / Sell / Gifts / Quest | First cautious mine or ruin visit with food saved for the walk back | Selling anything that looks unique or questy |
| 4 | Confirm you can water the whole plot without panic. If not, shrink the plot | Buy the next utility upgrade only if it saves daily energy | Expanding tiles before watering is solved |
| 5 | Town rhythm: morning vs evening faces, shop locations, quest/mail board | Give liked gifts to 1–2 people you actually like | Dumping loved gifts before you pick a romance target |
| 6 | Repeat the money loop from the Money Making Guide. Keep a small gold buffer | Push one map layer farther than yesterday | Passing out far from bed |
| 7 | Review the checklist below. Sketch next season’s seeds. Pick 2 NPCs to prioritize | Read Marriage only if you already have a favorite | Comparing your farm to a 100-hour screenshot |
Hard defaults for week 1:
- Crops: current-season, finishable, cheap. Exact “best crop” belongs on the future crop calendar—until then, use the shipping menu, not a guessed ranking.
- Gifts: cheap liked items only. Look up targets in the Gift Guide.
- Money: crops + route forage first. Fishing/mining are optional accelerators.
Days 1–2: Survival basics
Goals
- A small, fully watered crop plot you can maintain daily
- Basic tools usable without constant frustration
- Enough food or rest discipline to finish essential chores
- First introductions in town (names > deep story)
Farming
- Clear a small rectangle near storage/water access—not the whole map.
- Plant fast, cheap crops suitable for the current season.
- Water every day unless weather does it for you.
- Leave space for chests and a path; redesigning later costs time.
Energy rules of thumb
- Spend the morning on farm chores (they scale every day).
- Spend leftover energy on one side activity: foraging, fishing, mining, or mining-adjacent exploration—not all four.
- If a system is still locked or unclear, don’t force it. Note it and return on Day 3–4.
Tools & house
- Upgrade only when the upgrade clearly saves daily energy or unlocks a bottleneck.
- A slightly cleaner pathing layout beats a huge messy farm.
Days 3–4: First reliable income
By now you want a repeatable cash loop, not lucky one-off sales.
Priority order
- Crops you can finish this season → ship/sell on a schedule
- Forage that respawns on routes you already walk
- Fishing if you enjoy it and have bait/access sorted
- Crafting/processing only when inputs are stable (don’t process your last seeds)
Simple daily money loop (30–45 min of play time)
- Water / harvest
- Hit a short forage route on the way to town
- Sell what you don’t need for quests
- Buy next seeds/food only
- One social pass (gifts if you have spares—see Gift Guide)
- Optional: fishing or one mine run if energy remains
- Sleep with chores done
For stage-by-stage routes, use the full Money Making Guide.
Days 5–7: Social + exploration
Social
- Talk to new faces each day; friendship systems usually reward consistency.
- Keep 3–5 cheap “liked” gifts in a chest near the exit.
- Don’t hard-commit to marriage yet unless you’re sure—use week 1 to learn schedules.
- If you’re already aiming at romance, skim Marriage Candidates so you don’t dump loved gifts on the wrong person.
Exploration
- Push one map layer further than yesterday—not five.
- Bring food for the trip back.
- Mark landmarks mentally: water, ladders, vendors, festival boards.
- Treat deaths/pass-outs as layout lessons, not failures.
Town rhythm
Learn roughly:
- Who is around in the morning vs evening
- Which shops matter for seeds, upgrades, and food
- Where notice boards / quests appear in 1.0
You don’t need perfect schedules in week 1—just stop playing town as a random maze.
First-week checklist
Copy this into a note and tick as you go.
Farm
- Small crop plot cleared and fenced/path-aligned
- Chest + trash/sell routine established
- Watering is sustainable (not a daily panic)
- Next season’s seed plan sketched
Money
- At least one repeatable income source
- Emergency food/funds buffer
- No major impulse upgrades
Social
- Met most available townsfolk once
- Know 2–3 NPCs you actually like
- Gift chest started (even if small)
Systems
- Tried fishing at least once
- Tried mining/foraging beyond the farm once
- Understand how to check quests/mail/version features in 1.0
- Comfortable with save habit
Common beginner mistakes
- Giant farm, tiny stamina — scale plots to energy, not ambition.
- Skipping sleep math — unfinished watering hurts more than one more ore node.
- No sell rhythm — inventory chaos hides real profit.
- Gift spam without a table — wasted loved items; use the Gift Guide.
- Ignoring seasons — long-growth crops planted too late are sunk cost.
- Upgrading vanity first — look cool in week 3; eat in week 1.
- Never entering town — you will brick social and quest progress.
- Tutorial amnesia — if stuck, re-check controls/crafting recipes before wiki-diving.
- Burning unique quest items — when unsure, stash, don’t sell.
- Comparing your Day 7 to someone’s 100-hour farm — different genre of content.
